Habitual Eating

Posted by on Sep 19 2011 | To Your Great Health

Eating out of habit is something you may do without even realizing. It’s easy to develop the habit of eating while watching TV. After a pattern repeats often, that pattern becomes fixed in the brain. To break it, you must interrupt it or notice it to break it.

Researchers conducted a study of movie goers and popcorn eaters. Initially, popcorn was given to participants entering a movie theater. The popcorn handed out was either freshly popped or stale. Researchers also ran one more separate experiment giving participants stale or fresh popcorn before they went into a movie theater but this time they were asked to eat with their dominant or non-dominant hand.

The researchers found that people who ate with their non-dominant hand ate much less of the stale popcorn. This simple change resulted in a pattern interrupt — temporarily breaking their eating habit.

Walnuts Can Lower Breast Cancer Risk

Posted by on Sep 09 2011 | Uncategorized

Researchers report that eating a small amounts of walnuts every day can significantly lower the risk of breast cancer in women.

Walnuts contain healthy Omega-3 fats, minerals and vitamins, making them an excellent food choice. Researchers guess that the health benefits come from a synergistic effect between multiple nutrients provided in the walnuts.

Eating just two ounces of walnuts every day can significantly lower your risk of developing breast cancer.

Researchers found that a study group whose diet included walnuts from the point of conception to later in life developed breast cancer at less than 50 percent of the rate of the group that ate a typical diet.

60-watt LED Bulb Will Cost $15

Posted by on Sep 05 2011 | Uncategorized

Ready to pay $15 for a 60 watt lightbulb come January 1? I’m not…

The US federal government will begins to unlawfully take away our freedom to purchase the light bulbs we want beginning on January 1, 2012. This will leave only poisonous compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs or expensive light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs costing about $15 each.

A typical 60-watt incandescent bulb only costs around $1. OK, you might save a little each month on energy costs and the LED bulb may last a little bit longer. Is it worth it, though? LED bulbs are the only safe alternative to incandescents because CFLs are extremely toxic and dangerous.

Don’t forget, the US government’s Energy Star program estimates that US household has over 40 light sockets. I don’t even want to do this math…

Dream a Dream for Your Kids

Posted by on Sep 02 2011 | Uncategorized

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of UPromise for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I found an interesting contest on the Internet today. Not at all like other contests that are all over the net.

This is called www.upromisetodream.com  and it involves dreaming a dream for your children.

As parents we all have dreams for our kids, right? From the first moments we lay eyes on them, we begin formulating great plans, hopes and dreams for them. I’m no different.

I have a son who is a senior in high school. He will be 18 in February and his goal is to join the Marines when he finishes high school. I’m be honest. This scares me to death. As noble and honorable as this goal is, it is NOT what I had envisioned for my baby. It scares me spitless.

Anyway, I found this contest in which you enter a dream on a Dream Wall. So, I went to the Dream Wall and I entered a dream for my boy.

If you are a parent, you should go to the Dream Wall website, look around a little and submit your own dream. Read the dream wall official rules too. If you do, would you please post a comment here on my blog and share your dream? That would be so cool. If we keep this going, it can get totally viral!
