CDC Adjusts Fluoride Poisoning of America’s Water Supply

Posted by on Jan 08 2011 | Uncategorized

The CDC has issued a report that shows 2 in 5 children in America with signs of fluoride poisoning. The agency concluded that fluoride levels need to be lowered in municipal water supplies — to 0.7 milligrams per liter from 1.2 milligrams per liter.

Fluoride levels have been at 1.2 milligrams for 50 years.

“The bad news is that the CDC and ADA are still trying to maintain that the only issue of concern is dental fluorosis [while] they are trying to ignore all the other health concerns. If they were really serious about reducing dental fluorosis, they would stop fluoridated water altogether.” — Professor Paul Connett, Executive Director of the Fluoride Action Network.

Fluoride is really fluorosilicic acid. This is a poisonous waste byproduct of the phosphate mining industry.

Getting Away to Branson

Posted by on Jan 08 2011 | Uncategorized

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hiltons of Branson. All opinions are 100% mine.

This is the time of year that it gets hard where I live. The novelty of snow and cold is over and we get to anticipate a long, cold winter ahead of us. Yay. Getting away would sure help break up the winter and make it easier to tolerate.

Living in the Midwest we are not that far away from Branson so this would be a doable vacation for us. I would love to spend some time relaxing at the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel . The shops, restaurants, and family attractions would be enjoyable. Of course, there’s the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing too. Luxury accommodations, located near museums, theaters and theme parks! What’s not to love!

If it were up to me, I’d make a family getaway that resembled a great big field trip. I’d make it educational and hit all the museums in the area. I’d also give the kids a taste of the entertainment available by visiting the theaters. Then we’d have recess — them to the theme parks and me to the spas!

This sounds like a dream vacation that would appeal to the whole family. Branson in 2011 for us!

Vitamin Supplements Could Save Children

Posted by on Jan 06 2011 | Uncategorized

About two million children die yearly from diarrhea. Approximately 200,000 people — mostly children — die every year from measles.

A new study endorses the use of vitamin A supplements, based on research that shows the vitamin slashes the incidence of measles and diarrhea. Vitamin A deficiency is common in low and middle income countries. It results in impaired body functions, blindness, infections and even premature death.

WHO recommends vitamin A supplements for pregnant women and children. Giving vitamin A often reduces the incidence of diarrhea and measles, as well childhood deaths due to these illnesses.

Researchers recommend continuing vitamin A supplementation programs for children under five. This is not a permanent solution to the problem of vitamin A deficiency, however. Fortification, food distribution programs and horticultural developments may provide more permanent relief.

Store Brand Formulas

Posted by on Jan 06 2011 | Uncategorized

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

No doubt, any parents of babies reading are well-acquainted with the Similac scare and recall recently. Has this situation left your store shelves bare of the name brand formulas you used to buy? Perhaps a store brand formula is the brand to try now.

I read an interesting article about the great switch to generic formula that is occurring right now. Why pay twice as much for formula that is no better than the formula that hasn’t had quality and safety issues necessitating a recall? It just doesn’t make sense.

Chances are that your favorite retailer has their own off-brand formula that is subject to all of the same standards as the big names. Just a lower price due to lower overhead.

If I were in this situation, I’d be reading and comparing labels carefully. There’s absolutely no reason to line the pockets of the big guys here.

So…what do you think? What would you spend an extra $600 per year per child on? That adds up, doesn’t it? As for me, I’d much rather put that savings into something my child could use and appreciate…not something useless and invisible.

Secret Cure for Alzheimer’s Disease

Posted by on Jan 05 2011 | Uncategorized

Imagine…taking just four teaspoons of coconut oil per day might reverse dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease is fatal, and has no cure. Patients have several ineffective pharmaceuticals from which to choose.

Meanwhile, researchers wonder if supplying the brain with more energy from an alternative supply known — ketones — might halt the disease. The easiest way to get the body producing ketones is to eat medium-chain triglycerides.

Both coconut and palm kernel oil show great promise in treating Alzheimer’s. A doctor fed coconut oil to her husband and within two days he was showing signs of improvement. Within 2 months he was alert, happy and making jokes. Within a year, he regained most of his former skills and interests.

New Tom’s of Maine Products

Posted by on Jan 05 2011 | Uncategorized

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Toms of Maine. All opinions are 100% mine.

We have been regular users of Tom’s Of Maine products for years, particularly enjoying the non-fluoride toothpaste as a great alternative to the standard fluoride toothpaste products that we avoid.

Recently, I went to the store to purchase a fresh tube of Tom’s toothpaste and I was surprised to see all the Tom’s products looking completely different. I chose a tube of the Wicked Fresh toothpaste and brought it home. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice that it had fluoride until I brought it home. Oops! I returned that to the store and exchanged it for a tube of a fluoride-free peppermint that looked very new and different from the old peppermint toothpaste.

The new flavor is very different from the old flavor. We’ll get used to it, I’m sure. It’s nice to have unfluoridated toothpaste options that don’t break the bank and are available at the standard stores.

Think so too? Visit Tom’s of Maine on the web. You can even enter their That’s Wicked Fresh contest page for a chance at winning a gift card. I love it when I can win by using the products I already use and love! While you’re there, join Tom’s of Maine on Facebook or follow them on Twitter to keep up with all of the newest product developments.

Prevent Heart Disease

Posted by on Jan 03 2011 | Uncategorized

Italian researchers now now that diets rich in leafy green vegetables and olive oil are important for heart health. Women who eat a serving of leafy greens each day are 46 percent less likely to develop heart disease than women who eat less. Consuming at least three tablespoons of olive oil a day creates a similar effect.

The research collected data from about 30,000 Italian women and tracked their health over eight years.

Eating a diet rich in vegetables and olive oil can prevent and treat type-2 diabetes, reduce risks of breast cancer, maintain healthy weight, prevent and improve prostate cancer and prevent and improve Alzheimer’s.

Baby Formula Wars

Posted by on Jan 03 2011 | Uncategorized

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have not ever been in a situation where I needed first-hand knowledge about baby formula because I have been blessed to have successfully breastfed all of my children. I can only imagine the extensive research I would do if I had to choose a formula. Generally, store brand formula is cheaper than name brands due to lower overhead and advertising costs. Is price the only difference though? Are ingredients inferior? And how much can parents actually save by buying store brands? I’ve heard numbers up to $600 a year — this is significant.

Then there is the situation about product recalls. A parent using formula would be frightened of using a brand they cannot trust. The recent Similac recall drives this home for many parents. Imagine — some Similac formulas were recalled because of the possibility of small beetles in the formula!

Parents struggling to decide whether to use name brand or store brand formula might find informative help by reading an Examiner article about store brand formula and the pros and cons. It’s a big decision, but if you find that the ingredients are equal to name brands, why not save money? Put it in a college fund instead!

PSA Tests Do More Harm Than Good

Posted by on Jan 01 2011 | Uncategorized

Warning:

Doctors screen for prostate cancer by measuring levels of the prostate specific antigen (PSA). Because inflammation can also be caused by other conditions, many men are regularly referred for unnecessary biopsies.

Most prostate cancers grow so slowly that men who develop this cancer will die from other reasons before ever exhibiting any symptoms.

Two studies concluded recently that PSA screening provides no benefit to men. This is why nearly all public health agencies no longer recommend this test. However, the mainstream medical establishment continues to encourage regular PSA testing.

Could this overtesting be because urologists make a large part of their income from PSA tests?
