Imaging Tests Can Damage Kidneys, Increase Stroke and Heart Attack Risk
If you go see your doctor with a health complaint, you may receive a high tech imaging procedure like a cardiac angiography, CT, or MRI. Medical imaging has increased over the last few years.
New reports of lasting, harming effects from some of these imaging tests are beginning to accumulate.
Doctors know that exposure to contrast agents necessary for some imaging tests can cause damage to kidneys. Typically, patients are assured that is just a temporary side effect that will resolve on its own. Recent studies have suggested that this kind of kidney damage might actually be serious and permanent.
Additionally, the contrast agent iopamidol has also caused seizures in people with a history of epilepsy.
