Daily Wine Boosts Life Expectancy

Posted by Seeker on May 08 2009 | New Health Discoveries

New research concludes that up to a glass of wine daily can have substantial health benefits. For men, drinking a small amount of wine may increase life expectancy by five years.

During a 40-year study, researchers found that light long term alcohol consumption of all types boosted life expectancy life by around two extra years compared to drinking no alcohol at all. Life expectancy was slightly decreased for the men who drank more than 20 g of alcohol.

Men who drank only wine lived approximately 2.5 years longer than those who drank beer and spirits and lived about five years longer than those who drank no alcohol at all.

The researchers concluded that drinking wine in moderation was strongly associated with a lower risk of dying from coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and other deaths. These findings seem to be true for every socioeconomic status, diet and other lifestyle habits of the men.

Escape to Kissimmee

Posted by Seeker on May 08 2009 | All Inclusive

Needing a vacation? Life for me has entered an unbelievably fast lane pace lately and it has no signs of slowing down for the foreseeable future. It is really enough for me to start dreaming about escaping to someplace like…Kissimmee! I haven’t been there for years, but I love this area of Florida.

I am not an amusement park person. Never have been and I don’t expect that I ever will be. That is why the Kissimmee area appeals to me, I guess. I love nature settings, hiking trails, and watching wildlife. The Everglades are ready to be explored here! In fact, from what I understand this area is the largest nesting place for Bald Eagles in the entire continental US. These wetlands are brimming with interesting wildlife and nature just ready to be explored.

Sound great? There’s more, though! Kissimmee is giving away three weekend getaways for two and two week-long vacations for four. Two drawings have already occurred, but there is still one more on June 1, 2009. Enter the sweepstakes and win one of these cool vacations!

New Studies Reveal the Medicinal Benefits of Honey

Posted by Seeker on May 08 2009 | New Health Discoveries, To Your Great Health!

Honey has long been known as a natural medicine. Both the Greeks and Egyptians used honey as one of their main healing tools. There are new studies being conducted that are revealing exciting medical benefits of honey.

Manuka Honey seems to be especially beneficial. Manuka honey comes from the flower of the Manuka bush and is native to New Zealand. This kind of honey has been found to have anti-bacterial properties. Manuka honey can help stop the growth of harmful bacteria even when wounds are badly infected. The Manuka honey’s amazing healing properties come from a natural chemical reaction that produces hydrogen peroxide.

Buckwheat honey has been found to ease children’s colds, soothe coughs and promote sleep. When children were given just a little bit of honey before bed they slept better and coughed less than when they took nothing at all.

Research in to the healing properties of honey is especially encouraging with many bacteria now becoming resistant antibiotics.

Stroke Awareness Month

Posted by Seeker on May 06 2009 | All Inclusive

It’s been awhile since I talked about C’elle, but I thought that since May is Stroke Awareness Month this would be an excellent time to revisit C’elle and the products and services they offer.

C’elle is a service that helps women collect and preserve stem cells from their monthly menstrual flow. These stem cells have amazing possibilities for healing, new techniques, and treatments for serious illnesses. Strokes are one such illness that stem cell therapy may be effective for treating.

Some quick talking points about strokes:

  • Stroke is the top cause of disability in the US
  • 100,000 young and middle-aged women will suffer strokes in 2009
  • One third of these will be in women under 65

Adult stem cells harvested from bone marrow have been used to treat stroke victims. Research has also indicated that stem cells may be able to help repair damage done during a stroke. Harvesting bone marrow has its downsides, however. It happens to be an extremely painful procedure. Wouldn’t it be so much easier to collect stem cells from a monthly menstrual flow instead?

C’elle’s service is surprisingly affordable. When you really think about it, though…can we even put a price tag on something like this? Visit C’elle’s about page to get all the details and information you want about this company. Then visit their order now page to get yourself set up to begin collecting precious stem cells and ensuring the health of you and your family.

Baby Products Contain Cancer-Causing Chemicals

Posted by Seeker on May 06 2009 | That is an Outrage!!

Baby shampoos, lotions and other toiletries may contain known carcinogens. Products that claim to be gentle and pure are contaminated with carcinogens, which is completely unnecessary.
48 baby bath products were analyzed for two known carcinogens (formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane) and 23 contained the first, 32 contained the second, and 11 contained both.

Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo and Baby Magic lotion were the two biggest companies.

Both chemicals are classified as probable carcinogens by the Environmental Protection Agency, and 1,4-dioxane in lotions has been shown to penetrate human skin. The levels are relatively low. The problem is that small amounts of carcinogens are being found in many products. Many of these products are used every day so exposure is repeated and frequent.

Science has moved forward and the FDA needs to catch up and be given the authority to protect people’s health
