Extra! Extra! Read About Being an Extra!

Posted by on Oct 08 2008 | Uncategorized

Have you ever thought about pursuing any kind of a show business career? You have to get your foot in the door somehow and here is an interesting opportunity for you if this sounds like something you’d like to try. Most people I know haven’t given this much thought…but perhaps you have!

Extras are those people that are in the the background of a film or TV scene. They have no speaking parts, but you can see them behind the main characters. These are the people you see in a street scene or in a park or in a restaurant. They are very necessary for making scenes look natural and realistic.

Extras typically earn between $100 and $300 per day, depending on the project.

Sound interesting? Well…this is something that anyone between the ages of 18 to 85 can do. It doesn’t matter where you live because Talent6 films all over the country. Just about any young person I could think of would jump at a chance to appear in a film or TV show.

Find out if this is something for you by calling this toll free number to talk with a portfolio manager. Call (800) 493-9047.

Tips On Reading Food Labels

Posted by on Oct 08 2008 | Uncategorized

Nutrition labels are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are designed to inform the consumer of the actual ingredients of foods. Food labels are required for all prepared foods and are voluntary for raw produce and fish.

The Nutrition Facts are based on a 2000 calorie diet, which is considered the standard for necessary calories for an average person.

To properly read food labels start with the serving size. Note the size and if it is very small then it is likely that the manufacturer of the product wants the nutritional content to appear reasonable. To accomplish this, manufacturers can legally make the serving size unreasonably small.

Study the list of ingredients. The best nutritional information about a food product is here.

Look for ingredients that have names you recognize. Chemicals have long, difficult words. They are added to foods for flavor enhancement or to preserve. Basically, if you have trouble spelling or pronouncing an ingredient, then you probably should not be putting it in your body.

Ensure the presence of whole grains.

Avoid artificial colors and flavors. Artificial colors have a USDA certified tag FD&C. These colors are approved for use in foods, drugs, and cosmetics. Incredibly, the same colors in your food can be used in cosmetics! Many of these chemicals have been linked to cancer.

Avoid trans fats –these are not natural ingredients. Trans fats are used in food products for one reason and one reason only – they extend shelf life. Try not to consume any food that has “partially hydrogenated” oil listed in the ingredients.

A “fully hydrogenated” fat is a manufactured saturated fat. Fat of this kind has been altered from its original form. Your body will not know how to process this fat.

Notice the sodium content. Sodium is added to benefit the manufacturer. Foods high in sodium are not good for you but good for shelf-life.

Avoid all artificial sweeteners and high fructose corn syrup.

Watch for flavor enhancers. Flavor enhancers are derived from glutamate, which is a powerful neurotransmitter used in the brain. The common names for flavor enhancers are: monosodium glutamate (MSG), hydrolyzed vegetable protein, hydrolyzed protein, hydrolyzed oat flour, sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, yeast extract, autolyzed yeast, textured protein, plant protein extract, corn oil, and…yes…even natural flavors.

With practice, reading food labels will become easier and your health will improve dramatically with wiser food choices.

Things You Can Do To Restore Healthy Skin and Hair

Posted by on Oct 04 2008 | Uncategorized

To restore thick hair and stop the graying progression you need to restore your level of thyroid functioning. This is not always easy to do.
When you can get a doctor to test thryroid function, unfortunately the standard of care for low thyroid symptoms is to check levels with a thyroid hormone stimulating test (TSH). The common conclusion is that a low score on the TSH means your body isn’t trying to stimulate thyroid production. Therefore thyroid production must be fine. A high score on the TSH means your thyroid is not functioning well and that’s why your body is trying to increase it. This approach is a little off-base.

The best way to see how your thyroid is functioning is to have blood testing of TSH, T3 and T4.

If your traditional doctor decides your thyroid function is off, a pharmaceutical drug will be prescribed.

Most of these are synthetic drugs that do not occur naturally. Your body will consider them to be foreign substances and will build resistance to them over time…rendering them ineffective. These chemicals will also toxify your liver and will have side effects.

There is a natural thyroid replacement that comes from pigs. The pig thyroid hormone is identical to the human thyroid hormone and contains both T3 and T4. A popular brand of natural thyroid is Armour thyroid. This will be recognized by your body as a natural substance and therefore you will not build resistance to it. There are also no undesirable side effects associated with this.

Once thyroid levels are stabilized, hair loss or graying will eventually slow down and finally stop. Increased energy will return as well.

Different Kinds of Hair Loss

General shedding occurs throughout the head. You notice hair in drains, hair brushes, and on the bathroom floor. This is the most common form of hair loss and is typical of people with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

Circular patches of hair loss is usually the result of a fungal infection or autoimmune alopecia. This is not associated with thyroid problems.

Male pattern hair loss is concentrated on the temples and top of the head and is caused by hair follicles shrinking and disappearing.

You Need a Healthy Thyroid for Beautiful Hair and Skin

Posted by on Oct 03 2008 | Uncategorized

If your hair turns gray and falls out or stays thick is dependent on your body having proper levels of thyroid hormones. New research has revealed that human hair follicles are direct targets of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4.

Human hair follicles in their growth phase were obtained from women between the ages of 40 and 69 with adequate thyroid levels. The follicles were cultured and treated with T3 and T4.

The results showed that both T3 and T4 significantly stimulate the synthesis of melanin in the follicle. Melanin is what gives pigment or color to the hair.

Hair that is brittle or has split ends has been observed to correlate with low thyroid levels. Some doctors diagnose low thyroid based solely on early graying of the hair and the loss of hairs from the outer ends of the eyebrows.

Thyroid problems can develop at any age. They usually appear slowly enough that they go unnoticed. At least 27 million Americans probably have an undiagnosed thyroid problem.

The thyroid is the master gland of metabolism. When it is not functioning properly it will affect every part of your well-being. Most particularly affected are weight, mental outlook, body temperature and energy levels.

Untreated hypothyroidism will increase your risk of serious health issues. Another symptom of hypothyroidism is weak heart beat. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include difficulty losing weight, weight changes, and muscle and joint pain. Depression and anxiety can also be symptoms of thyroid problems.

When your thyroid is not functioning properly the body will attempt to conserve energy by redirecting it from nonessential areas. This is why your hair and skin are among the first to go then your thyroid starts to malfunction. When thyroid function is low there is not enough raw building materials available to keep the nonessential parts of you at their best.

Be Careful With Plastic At Grocery Stores

Posted by on Oct 03 2008 | Uncategorized

PhotobucketOver 4 million credit card numbers were compromised by a security breach at the Hannaford Brothers grocery chain according to an announcement released by the company.

Approximately 1,800 connected cases of fraud have been reported.

Hannaford has warned customers to monitor their cards for any unexpected charges. No personal information except card numbers was exposed. Customers should beware of anyone claiming to represent Hannaford asking for any information.

Debit card holders are at much greater risk from fraud than credit card holders. Credit card companies will typically cover any fraudulent charges but it can be much more difficult to convince banks to reimburse fraudulent withdrawals.

The breach was detected on February 27 but Hannaford did not announce it until March 17. It has also not been revealed which stores were affected by this breach.
